The Beauty in the Unseen – My Journey with Empathy & Yūgen
As the daughter of immigrants, I grew up balancing two worlds. One where resilience and achievement defined success, and another where my quiet longing for emotional connection often went unnoticed. My parents, though hardworking and well-intentioned, carried the weight of their own unspoken struggles as Vietnamese boat people, survivors of war who were learning a new life in a foreign country. Vulnerability was never modeled, emotions were rarely acknowledged, and love was something you proved rather than something you felt.
Yet, I felt everything. I could sense the sadness behind my parents’ silences, the love they didn’t know how to express, and the depth of emotions they kept hidden beneath their sacrifices. Empathy became my survival skill. It was how I navigated a world that didn’t always have the words for what I intuitively understood.
For years, I followed the practical path—accounting, IT—structured careers that made sense on paper. But something inside me longed for more and even my colleagues saw something in me that I couldn’t see within myself. I eventually realized that my ability to deeply understand and connect with others wasn’t just a skill; it was a gift, a calling.
That’s when I discovered Yūgen—a Japanese concept that speaks to the profound beauty of what is felt but not always seen. The way a sunset stirs something unnameable in your soul. The depth of emotion in a quiet glance. The ache of knowing there is more to this life than what meets the eye. This was the very essence of what I had been feeling all my life. Also, the word itself is quite similar to my last name, Nguyen, which to me is not a coincidence but a synchronicity.
I pivoted my career and embraced my true path as a Holistic Mindset and Empathy Coach and Mind-Body Practitioner—guiding others to step into the unseen beauty of their own emotional landscapes. Empathy and Yūgen go hand in hand. Empathy allows us to feel deeply, to see beyond words, to hold space for emotions unspoken. Yūgen reminds us that transformation happens not in grand gestures, but in the quiet, subtle moments where truth is felt rather than said.
I now help people who, like me, have spent their lives feeling unseen—those who crave deeper connection but aren’t sure how to find it. Through a mix of practical strategies, mindset shifts, and somatic techniques, I help you move past the fear of being seen so you can show up with clarity, confidence, and ease. In my coaching, I create spaces where emotions are safe, vulnerability is honored, and healing unfolds in the most profound and delicate ways. Because sometimes, the most powerful transformations happen in the unseen spaces between words.
For so long, I wished someone would truly see me. Now, I help others feel seen, heard, and understood—sometimes for the first time in their lives. This is my purpose. This is my gift. And this is the depth of human connection that I am here to share with the world.
You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. You just have to give yourself permission to take up space.
If you’re ready to stop waiting for the right moment and start showing up on your terms, I’m here to help.
Love,
Theresa
